ROADSIDE
COAL WAGGON
Sorry for the delay in setting up all the galleries. Difficult thing for Olly and me to undertake. So for now, a portrait done a while ago of a Coal Waggon from Pontyberem, South Wales. Run by the late great Ernest Maidment, an ex Mordav driver, a regular in the Windrush cafe. The only man I ever saw speaking to two of his drivers at once on different phones, one in each ear - to one in Cymraeg/Welsh and the other in English ! He'd only employ older drivers. As he said - Steady plodders, you get twice as much work done, and half the amount of damage !
A real Star of the Road.
