B.R.S. DAYS
It was said that if the British Road Services needed 10 lorries for a job they'd put by 11, just in case. Private Hauliers would run 9 ! The state run B.R.S was brought in by the Attlee government after the war when everyone pulled together for a while. A good system, with long established hauliers running the depots. Later tory governments who don't like anything nationalised, apart from themselves, got rid of it.
Pity, I'd say - we could have kept both.
